Why AAA contrast matters for favicons
Favicons are tiny, often shown on busy browser chrome, and frequently viewed on different screens. Strong contrast helps them stay recognizable.
Tiny icons need stronger contrast
At 16x16, there are very few pixels to communicate the shape of the icon. Low contrast makes those pixels blend together.
A combination that looks acceptable at 512x512 may feel weak in a browser tab.
AA and AAA are useful signals

How to improve contrast
Use a darker foreground on a light background, a white mark on a strong color, or a simple outline when the icon needs separation.
