Text favicon best practices

Text favicons can work extremely well, but only when they are short, bold and designed for tiny display.

Use fewer characters

One or two letters are usually clearer than a full word. Faviqon supports up to four characters, but the 16x16 preview should guide the final choice.

If the favicon is hard to read, switch to initials or a single strong letter.

Choose a bold font

Heavy, simple fonts survive small sizes better than delicate or decorative typefaces.

Avoid letterforms with very thin strokes unless the background contrast is extremely strong.

Use a clear background

Text favicons often benefit from a solid color background. The container gives the letters a defined shape in busy browser UI.

Check both readability and contrast before downloading.
